Oceanic Arts Swag

Obviously, I couldn't set foot in Oceanic Arts without picking up some stuff for The Mauna Kai Lounge. My purchases were limited to what I could fit in my luggage. Here's what I bought:

Killer Mug & Sven's Tiki Archeology DVD

Switch Plate & Door Knobs by "Crazy Al" Evans

Marquesan Warrior Figure

Bamboo Tiki Swag Lamp

I picked up this Moai S&P set at Tonga Hut on Sundat night. They were made by my friend, Ernie, aka: GROG.

Oceanic Arts-Tiki Mecca

Monday, January 31, 2011
We slept in a little bit, this morning, & then headed over to Paramount Studios to have lunch with my buddy, Shawn. Shawn does scores for film & TV & his office is at Paramount. You've probably heard his soundtracks to "The World's Wildest Police Chases" & "The World's Dumbest..." among others. After lunch, we made tracks for that SoCal Mecca of Tiki, Oceanic Arts in Whittier. The place has been owned by the same 2 guys, Leroy Schmaltz & Bob Van Oosting since 1956! Leroy still carves, in the back of the shop, everyday. Their work & products have found there way into virtually every Tiki establishment erected since then, including my own Maunai Kai Lounge. What a great experience it was visiting this Tiki temple & meeting Leroy, who's every bit as gracious in person as I had heard. I will never visit SoCal without a little shopping trip to Oceanic Arts.

Boy, this wahine just gave me the cold shoulder!
