Shopping At Newbury Comics

Thursday, June 23:
Found myself with a Lone Wolf night, so I decided to finally check out Newbury Comics' flagship store in Norwood. This is supposed to be their biggest store with the best stuff & I had a pocket full of cash. I hit the road with visions of killer vintage music dancing in my head! When I pulled into the parking lot, it was ovious this was their biggest store. Oh, boy! Upon entering, I found about the same amount of music as the much smaller Natick store & a crapload of trinkets & doodads. Oh, well! There's still got to be some good vintage tunes in here. Two hours of shopping yielded 2 CDs, one of which, I don't consider vintage. It was still better than staying on the couch, but if you're looking for vintage tunes, the Natick location is definitely the place to go. I have a love/hate relationship with flea markets. I love going to them, but I really hate the time I've got to get up to get there! Today, I dragged my sorry behind outta bed & hit the road for the Rietta Ranch Flea Market. It was definitely worth the trip. Here's what I scored:

Rhode Island Tiki Finds

Thursday, June 16:
Hadn't been to Rhode Island in a while, so today seemed like a good day. I arrived at Stillwater Antiques in Greenville, only to discover that they are no longer open past 5:00! Crap! Plan B was to head to Pawtucket, I know they're open til 7:00. On the way from Greenville to Pawtucket, I stopped at Riccotti's of North Providence for a sandwich. great Italian sub on nice fresh bread. I could have done without the half pound of pickles, though! haha Plan B worked ou well, as I scored some cool stuff in Pawtucket. I brought home 2 Peking Garden, nude lady, clear zombie glasses, 4 Kowloon, surfing wahine mugs, a large Tepco wahine mug & a Bali Hai palm tree mug.

Pago Pago Mai Tai

Saturday, June 11:
My Tiki-hunting sidekick & fellow Kustom fan, Pete came up to hang out, trade mugs & sample my newly acquired Pago Pago Mai Tai recipe. The drinks were great.
Here's the recipe:
1 oz Pago Pago Mai Tai Mix*
1 oz Sour Mix
1 oz Myers' Rum
1 oz Silver Rum

Shake with crushed ice & serve in Double Old-fashioned glass or your favorite Tiki mug.
*Pago Pago Mai Tai Mix:
1/3 Honey
1/3 Orgeat
1/3 Orange Curacao

Papua New Guinea Mask

Thursday, June 9:
During our Memorial Day drive, I spotted this amazing Papua New Guinea mask at Old Glory Antiques in Fitzwilliam, NH. Today, I made it back up there with cash in my pocket & brought it home for my lounge. Upon returning home, I stopped at North Main Street antiques & scored a vintage Westwood Tiki Mug, a vintage Trader Vic's mug, Trader Vic' Pacific Island Cookbook & 3 contemporary, hula girl Zombie glasses. It was a good day for Tiki!

Atomic Ranch Magazine

Thursday, June 2
Picked up the Summer 2011 issue of Atomic Ranch magazine. Another great issue, this time with a feature on vintage travel trailers, a subject that has become increasingly intriguing to me. If you're interested in vintage travel trailers, I recommend grabbing copies of these 2 books; Ready To Roll by Arrol Gellner & Douglas Keister & Silver Palaces by Douglas Keister. The Matchbox trailer I've had since I was a little kid & was always one of my favorites. I know some of you have vintage trailers, I'd love to see some current pics of them on your blogs. Please comment here if you do.

Amherst Scores for May

Sunday, May 29:
Set up shop at the Amherst Automotive Flea Market today. I left my son to watch our booth & did a little poking around. I came across this Boston Braves program from 1972-73. It put a smile on my face cuz, when I was a puppy, playing for Marlboro Youth Hockey, we used to go to the Braves games as a team. When I opened the cover to find this amazing Bob Lee's Islander ad, I knew I had to cough up the 15 bucks & take it home. On the way home, we stopped at one of our favorite antique malls & I scored a matte black, OMC, Moai mug & 2 cheesy, South Seas paperbacks.
